Quality nursery recognises the contribution made by Grandparents

05 October, 2009

Hull-based Little Learners went all out this Grandparent’s Day, to celebrate and thank nannas, grandmas, granddads and grandpas for their help and support throughout the year.  The nursery on Victoria Dock has double cause for celebration having just found out that it has been awarded the Quality Mark for excellent service and childcare arrangements.

The nursery, owned by local business Sewell Group, planned an afternoon of craft events, tea and cake, on Friday 2nd October to coincide with the official Grandparent’s Day on Sunday 4th October.

Grandparents were invited to join their grandchildren to take part in creative activities, including: decorating photo frames and coasters, which grandparents were then given to take home as a memento of the day and a token of the children’s appreciation.

The afternoon was then rounded off with a traditional tea party, with cakes made and decorated by the children.

Nursery Manager Rachel Gouldson planned the event and was thrilled with the outcome. She said: “We’ve been busy planning the craft events and the children got very excited about decorating the cake because they each put their handprint on it, in icing shapes of course.

“One quote the nursery adapted is ‘Grandparents always make you feel they had been waiting to see just you all day and now the day was complete.’ – Marcy DeMaree.

“We had a really positive response from the invitations that were sent out, and it was quite a busy day, with around 30 grandparents attending.”

Rachel Corr, Head of HR and Brand said: “It’s fabulous that we’ve been able to do this for the children as grandparents really do make an incredible contribution to the nursery and to the care of the children.

“It’s nice to recognise that with a day dedicated just to them and with our framed Quality Mark certificate now in pride of place at the nursery, I think everyone definitely deserved a bit of a treat.”

Little Learners Nursery have ensured their Steps to Quality certificate by remaining at a consistent level, providing a quality setting and offering an assurance to parents – amongst many other impressive achievements. The certificate is awarded by the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnerships, a branch of Hull City Council.
